I asked Erin for the story and some photos. Without further ado, the sweet story of Walter (he's the brown, black and white one).....

So here is the rundown on crazypants Walter... We took him in to foster when East C.A.N. found him thinking he was a Shih Tzu like Ellie so he would be a good houseguest and temporary playmate for a her. I had Brandon go pick him because I was at work. When I got home I could tell that he was not a Shih Tzu but something equally as freaking cute! He looks like Benji and is most likely some kind of Lhasa mix.... I am thinking Tibetan terrier.

We took him to vet and they said he is in perfect health and 1-1.5 old. Walter isn't fixed yet (he is going Friday and getting microchipped) so Walter likes to run free and is constantly trying to get outside to explore.

Walter loooooves Eleanor and is constantly attacking her to play with him. He loves to lay with her and lick her face. Also Walter loves boiled eggs! He went through my nieces and nephews Easter basket after the egg hunt and stole the boiled eggs but left all the candy and chocolate alone. He is a strange little guy and loves to nap in the bathroom and is constantly sitting on my coffee table when he thinks no one is around. I am super glad we decided to keep because despite the constant escape attempts because he is really a sweet baby.

Chocolate Chips and Microchips

Our second annual Chocolate Chips and Microchips event was a huge success! "We aren't going to a movie, are we?" my fiance said. Of course we weren't.

We pulled over on a side street and started chasing the little black puff ball. He had no interest in being caught. We followed him street to street, cooing and baby talking like crazy people. Finally he wandered into a partially fenced-in yard. He still would not come close to me, but there was a little, old chihuahua on a chain that did want my attention. When the runaway pup saw that I was being kind to the chihuahua, he decided I must be okay and came to check me out. After a minute he let me pick him up.

Once in our car, we discovered that the little dog was filthy and covered in mats. I mean COVERED in mats. The poor little guy must have been in pain. There were mats on his paws, his belly, his everything, and they were pulling at his skin. We took him immediately to the wonderful, ever generous Wags and Whiskers in five points. They let us bathe him for free and helped us cut out as many mats as we could manage. We could now see what an adorable little man this was! I still can't believe whoever owned him didn't want him.

Next it was time to introduce him to our pack. I was a bit nervous about this but shouldn't have been. The three were almost instantly in love. They didn't stop playing for hours. That night, when we let the dogs out for their final potty break, the little black dog we began calling "Bear" curled up under a tree to go to sleep. He didn't understand he was allowed to sleep in the house! He quickly adjusted to the good life and after the first night was an in-the-bed sleeper. We fostered Bear for about a month. It was very important to me that this fellow found the perfect home.

About that time, a good friend of mine was experiencing a terrible loss. Her 14-year-old dog Gracie's health was failing and she had to put her to sleep. It was very hard for Holly and her home felt very empty. Though she felt it was a bit early Holly decided to foster Bear, knowing that he needed her. I felt almost positive that this was going to become a permanent home for him. Turns out I was right. Holly and bear are a great team and going strong after 7 months. They were absolutely made for each other. It's always such a joy to see them together. Bear is finally in the happiest home he could ask for.

More pictures coming soon.
